At Cuttings, we believe that our strengths are built on the skills and professionalism of the people who work for us. Our apprentices are
trained to industry standards training scheme which provides on-the-job-training leading to the nationally recognised qualification NVQ3.

We employ a professional team of contract managers, project engineers, site supervisors, all accredited to the Construction Skills
Certification Scheme – an industry wide certification scheme that confirms the levels of competence of properly skilled craftspeople.

Since 1879 we have been at the forefront of Lightning Protection and Earthing Services for the Construction and Facilities Management industries.

The History of R.C Cuttings

From humble beginnings as steeplejacks, we have grown to be one of the most respected companies in our field.

Whilst some of the core services of the company have changed to suit the requirement of modern construction, the core values have not. Good service remains at the front of what we do.

In 1946 we were one of the founder members of our trade association, now known as ATLAS, and continue to serve at the highest levels.

John has over 35 years industry experience and has been MD since 2009. He is active within Build UK, the national supply chain association and has served twice as President of ATLAS.

About Paul

Paul joined Cuttings in 2009 and has overseen the largest projects in the company’s history. He has introduced many new systems to improve efficiency, and has developed the company training plan. He is also Chairman of our industry training body – the Steeplejack & Lightning Protection Training Group

About Martin

Martin has been with Cuttings since 2002. He became a Director in 2013 and continues to grow sales and build relationships, whilst always remaining involved with customers at an early design stage.

About Jason

Jason Harfield was MD at Orion from 2002-2020 and has served twice as President of our industry Trade Association ATLAS. Having qualified as an engineer in 1983 he worked both as a steeplejack and lightning conductor engineer after which he took a supervisory position and subsequently management and Director positions.

About Adam

Adam has over 30 years’ experience in the Lightning Protection industry, having started as an engineer at the age of 16 through to various Manager levels and Directorships. Now as a Director overseeing our Cuttings East Division with experienced managers and Engineers.

About David

David has worked in the Lightning Protection industry since 2005 where he gained an NVQ Level 2 before becoming self-employed. He was Northern Director for Orion for two years before he joined Cuttings. David has experience of many installations including specialist protection using the DEHN isolated system, recently completing a significant project in Derby.

About Kevin

Kevin oversees our growing Maintenance Division which has seen a 100% growth since his start with us in 2016. The department now has dedicated and experienced managers in place for Testing (Billy Limby) and Repairs (Jason Howard) each with their own teams of NVQ3 qualified engineers.

Safety and Quality

We pride ourselves on the quality of our installations, and we inspect all of
these prior to handover as part of our ISO 9001 accreditation.

We are also members of the Association of Technical Lightning & Access Specialists (ATLAS) which aims to increase safety, promote training and develop a quality business environment for our specialist industry. We are also members of the Steeplejack and Lightning Protection Training Group (SLPTG).

We enjoy a good health and safety record based on sound practices adopted throughout the company. Our Company Safety Policy for employees, contractors and other persons associated with the company’s activities aims to prevent work-related accidents and property damage.
