A mix of offices, homes and retail space with open public areas, on the South Bank of the River Thames. The well-known Shell Centre Tower remains as the centrepiece of the site. The Tower is complemented by eight new buildings, with 530,000 sq ft of office space, along with around 48,000 sq ft retail units, restaurants and cafés, accompanied by almost 900 new homes.
Set in 12 acres of Hertfordshire countryside, Sopwell lies at the fringes of the Roman market town of St Albans. This grand Georgian mansion has been extended to incorporate Cottonmill Spa, with saunas, relaxation rooms, an indoor-out hydropool and a high-tech gym.
With innovative architecture, elegant cladding design and panoramic views across Canary Wharf, the river Thames and the City of London, Newfoundland is one of the capital’s most desirable places to live.
As part of a phased renovation of the exterior of this wonderful building, Cuttings installed a comprehensive external Lightning Protection System.
A structure of this nature requires particular care in the choice of materials used and the consideration that the conductor system is meant to protect the building, not spoil it’s appearance. Close liaison with the client’s architects was of utmost importance.
Working to an absolute end date and to a rigid budget, the installation of Lightning Protection and Earthing Systems was completed ahead of time and on budget.
Our works at the Olympic Park also included Lightning Protection Systems to the Athletes Village, Aquatics Centre, Basketball Arena, Water Polo Arena, Energy Centres, Hockey Pitches and several other temporary sites in and around London.
The contrast of working at Kew Gardens compared to the frenzy of modern construction projects could not have been more acute. Our works were to assess the need for protection to all buildings, and to undertake the installations where necessary.
At Kew we were principal contractor and undertook all activities in relation to our works, including all specialist access, builders work and surge protection installation.
With the gardens open to the public 7 days a week, our activities had to be carefully planned to ensure the safety of the public and to minimise disruption to our clients business.
A project requiring meticulous planning and agreement to ensure that the heritage issues were properly dealt with before works began.
To ensure the maximum life expectancy possible for the conductor installation, the client specified lead covered copper conductor tape with specialist fixings which brought special challenges in terms of access and installation.
This iconic tower can be seen for miles around, but its lightning protection is carefully hidden from view.
It was in 1985 when lightning struck Centre Court during the televised tournament and hit the metal racket of Jimmy Connors. The All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC) were rightly concerned and contacted their building contractor for help. Cuttings received the call and were on site the following morning to review their protection and we’ve looked after them every year since.
The world famous site has been extensively developed in the years since and Cuttings have been involved at every stage.
We’re very proud of our relationship with the AELTC and we wish them every success for the future.
We have been awarded another phase of what is an immense development and which sees Cuttings extend its international presence.
Our specialist skills and experience in both lightning protection and electrical earthing have given our client a confidence that couldn’t be gained from local contractors and that confidence has brought the reward of further works.
