Electrical Earthing Projects

We have been awarded another phase of what is an immense development and which sees Cuttings extend its international presence.

Our specialist skills and experience in both lightning protection and electrical earthing have given our client a confidence that couldn’t be gained from local contractors and that confidence has brought the reward of further works.

Both Solar and Wind farms will require both Lightning Protection and Earthing Systems.

With sites often in remote locations, where repairs and maintenance can be expensive, investment in protection systems is critical

We use a selection of methods to provide a low resistance earth, including earth rods, mats or plates, soil conditioning agents, deep drilled bore-holes – the selection will depend on the particular requirements for the substation and the soil resistivity of the ground.

Lightning Protection can be by tall masts or catenary wires, or by the provision of surge protection equipment – or both.

As one of the 100 plus substations that we work on each year, this project involved the installation of deep driven earth rods, connections to reinforcing and the installation of a ‘Marshalling Earth Bar’ around the substation walls.

A Lightning Protection System is also provided to the building to ensure that all possible measures are in hand.

Ground conditions can have a major impact on the results of Earthing installations and Brighton, being substantially on chalk hills, is not the ideal place to need a low resistance earth.

Cuttings were called in to establish the likely requirements and to provide a cost study to achieve a 1 Ohm earth nest which was done by the installation of a bore hole with conductive aggregate followed by calculations based on the result.

The client subsequently issued us with an order and the result was achieved within the quoted parameters, on time and within the budget.

An intricate network of earthing conductors were required to provide a safe and static free environment for this very large installation.

Floor pedestal bonding was undertaken to ensure that every single floor tile was provided with a reliable earthing connection, and dozens of interconnected earth electrodes provide the low resistance earth that the facility requires.

A Lightning Protection System was also provided to the building to ensure that all possible measures were in hand.

This £88 million super hangar has over 3,200 tonnes of steel, and houses maintenance facilities to support the Boeing fleet and the ever growing flight schedule from the UK’s 2nd busiest airport. The extensive earthing installation and lightning protection were provided by Cuttings.

The substation of this new apartment building got electrical earthing from Cuttings ahead of the main construction phase. Early works were essential to install the earthing conductors, earth rods and connections to the structural foundations before the main structure could be built.

This brand new car dealership had a detailed electrical earthing system designed and installed by Cuttings, taking consideration of the challenging soil resistivity and ground conditions of the area.
