It was in 1985 when lightning struck Centre Court during the televised tournament and hit the metal racket of Jimmy Connors. The All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC) were rightly concerned and contacted their building contractor for help. Cuttings received the call and were on site the following morning to review their protection and we’ve looked after them every year since.
The world famous site has been extensively developed in the years since and Cuttings have been involved at every stage.
We’re very proud of our relationship with the AELTC and we wish them every success for the future.

The contrast of working at Kew Gardens compared to the frenzy of modern construction projects could not have been more acute. Our works were to assess the need for protection to all buildings, and to undertake the installations where necessary.
At Kew we were principal contractor and undertook all activities in relation to our works, including all specialist access, builders work and surge protection installation.
With the gardens open to the public 7 days a week, our activities had to be carefully planned to ensure the safety of the public and to minimise disruption to our clients business.

As part of a phased renovation of the exterior of this wonderful building, Cuttings installed a comprehensive external Lightning Protection System.
A structure of this nature requires particular care in the choice of materials used and the consideration that the conductor system is meant to protect the building, not spoil it’s appearance. Close liaison with the client’s architects was of utmost importance.
